The town of Skalica, right next to Slovakia's border with the Czech Republic, is to host a joint session of the Slovak and Czech governments on 24th April said the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry.
The Czech delegation is to be headed by Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, while his Slovak opposite number is unclear at this point. It will hinge on the results of the run-off vote of Slovakia's presidential elections on 29th March, where Prime Minister Robert Fico is running and, if elected, will vacate his post as Prime Minister. Speaking on Thursday, Fico said that if a premier is elected for head of state he needs to step down straightaway. “To wit, he needs to do the final measures regarding the setting up of a new government, and he needs to be ready to hand over the office,” said Fico. The agreement on a joint Slovak-Czech government session was struck between Sobotka and Fico in Bratislava in February. They aim to follow up on a tradition of previous joint get-togethers in the Czech town of Uherske Hradiste and the Slovak town of Trenčín. The core issues to be broached at the upcoming session include transport infrastructure linking the two countries, joint projects in the energy sector and the defence industry.
