New Enviro Minister wants to manage forests

Incoming Environment Minister Ján Budaj, of the largest governing party Ordinary People, has said that forest management should be transferred from the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry to the Environment Ministry. Budaj stated that he has already discussed this issue with new Agriculture Minister Ján Mičovský, also of the Ordinary People party, and that the latter will not oppose the idea.

Budaj plans to split the current parliamentary committee for agriculture, environment and nature protection into two parts, thus establishing a separate parliamentary committee for the environment. "The Environment Ministry is large and requires the control of a separate committee. I want it to be an important committee," he said. The new environment minister also wants to continue the fight against landfills as well as environmental burdens.
