The consequences on the Slovak economy of sanctions being imposed against Russia over the situation in Ukraine would be disastrous, reads an analysis commissioned by the Slovak Government.
“We have a list of companies that have connections to the Russian market. Slovakia would face huge economic losses,” Prime Minister Robert Fico stated after the session of the Parliamentary Committee for European Affairs. Discussing sanctions against Russia and the situation in Crimea are Prime Ministers and Presidents of EU countries Thursday and Friday 20th – 21st March at a Summit in Brussels. They are also to concentrate on the relationship between the EU and Africa and renewable energy. This is an area that is starting to cause huge problems for some companies in Slovakia, as the level of support for renewable energy significantly increases the cost of electricity and simultaneously reduces the competitiveness of our companies, stated PM Robert Fico who is representing Slovakia at the EU Summit.
