The Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic has named two nominees for the post of president of the Supreme Court, Ivan Ruman and Ján Šikuta. The Judicial Court will attempt to elect the Supreme Court president on 30 March. Rumana was nominated by several members of the Judicial Council. Sikuta's nomination was approved by the Judicial Council of the District Court Bratislava III.
The Judicial Council has tried and failed to elect a new Supreme Court president three times. The election of a new head of the court has gained additional urgency because, according to media information, on Wednesday morning the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) detained the acting temporary head of the court, Jarmila Urbancová, in connection with her communications with Marian Kočner through the Threema app. The deadline for nominating a candidate for Supreme Court president was 10 March.
