On Sunday, in a statement marking International Women's Day, Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová called on women not to give up their ambitions and dreams and instead to join public and political life in Slovakia to contribute towards making the country a better place. At the same time, Čaputová in a Facebook post called on women to fight for their rights if they are not respected. Moreover, the president described her election as president last year as an "important signal" that Slovakia has "significantly advanced on the path to equality". Nevertheless, despite much progress in the past hundred years, "it would be an illusion to think that equal opportunities have become a reality", believes Čaputová.
