General practitioners in Slovakia are missing masks as well as disinfection in surgeries, stated the Slovak Doctors' Chamber President Marián Kollár in a press conference earlier this week, held in reaction to the spreading coronavirus. According to Kollar, 25, 000 doctors are facing problems with material and technical support. The Healthcare Ministry has declared that it is actively addressing the situation with masks and will immediately take the necessary steps in cooperation with other institutions. So far, the presence of the new coronavirus, has not been confirmed in Slovakia as of Wednesday, March 4, Health Ministry spokesperson Zuzana Eliášová told TASR on the same day.
A total of 247 people have been tested for coronavirus in Slovakia so far, with all the results being negative. On Thursday morning, Roosevelt Hospital in Banská Bystrica admitted five people suspected of contracting coronavirus, but the hospital is still waiting for the results of samples taken from the patients. Meanwhile one secondary school in Bratislava has preventively been closed for two days after one of its students came into contact with a person infected with the new coronavirus abroad. The results of tests for coronavirus on the student should be available within 48 hours.
