The Slovak Republic does not recognise Crimea’s illegitimate declaration of independence nor their subsequent accession to the Russian Federation, announced President Ivan Gašparovič in a statement on Wednesday.
The president considers full negotiations between all interested parties as the only acceptable way to solve the problems in Ukraine, adding that it’s impossible to accept any decisions which are contrary to international law, the principles of the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act of the OSCE, and other international treaties. “Slovakia condemns all actions that disrupt the preservation of territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Ukraine”, said the head of state. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at a speech on Tuesday that Ukraine does not currently have a legitimate government and country’s replacement of power was akin to terrorism.
