The National Highway Company has set an objective in which by 2020 95% of Slovakia's population should have access to the nearest motorway in less than 45 minutes. At present such an option is available to only 60% of Slovaks on average.
The Trnava region is succeeding in this respect, where 97% of the population have easy access, and in the Nitra region the figure is 80%. In the Košice and Prešov regions however, highs-speed motorways are not accessible in 45 minutes. This goal is to be realised with the construction of new roads and completion of planned highway corridors.
