EU-harmonised inflation at 3.2% in January

EU-harmonised year-on-year inflation in Slovakia stood at 3.2% in January 2020, the Statistics Office reported. Meanwhile, the average harmonised inflation rate for the 12-month period ending in January 2020 amounted to 2.9% y-o-y. As for monthly developments in January, the index of consumer prices was mainly influenced by the following increases: in food and non-alcoholic beverages - 0.44 percentage point (p.p.), in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels - by 0.44 p.p. and in transport - by 0.14 p.p.. Increases were also recorded in recreation and culture - by 0.10 p.p., in miscellaneous goods and services - by 0.07 p.p., in restaurants and hotels - by 0.06 p.p., in alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.04 p.p., in health care by 0.02 p.p. and in education - by 0.01 p.p..

Conversely, downward pressure on prices month-on-month was exerted by a decrease in clothing and footwear by 0.08 p.p.
