According to the Slovak president, during the two years following the murders of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, Slovakia has been undergoing a transformation that is bringing it closer to the truth. Zuzana Čaputová stated this after meeting investigative journalists and representatives of the 'For a Decent Slovakia' initiative on Wednesday, on the eve of the two-year anniversary of the murder. "Respect for the truth is an essence of the rule of law and no civilised and democratic society can exist without people whose professional duty it is to seek the truth and convey it to fellow citizens," Čaputová told the journalists. She added that she rejects all verbal or physical attacks, bullying and intimidation that journalists face because of their work. According to the prosecution, shady businessman Marián Kočner ordered the hit on Kuciak in retaliation for Kuciak's articles on his economic criminal activities.
