Unless Slovakia has genuine independence, it cannot combat high-level corruption, said European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruţu Kövesi. At the discussion on 18 February that took place in Bratislava, she recommended Slovakia to carry out a transparent selection of its Prosecutor General pointing out that the selected person must have sufficient qualifications.
Kövesi has been the Chief European Prosecutor since October last year and will thus be in charge of a new European body - the European Prosecutor's Office (EPPO).
