Slovak skier Petra Vlhová notched a victory in a World Cup slalom race at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia on Sunday. The 24-year-old Slovak was ahead of Switzerland's Wendy Holdener by 0.24 seconds and Austria's Katharina Truppe by 0.89 seconds. Vlhová thus achieved the 14th World Cup win in her career, eight in the classic slalom. Earning 100 points, she got to the top of the current World Cup standings ahead of American Mikaela Shiffrin, who however took a break from skiing after her father recently passed away.
Sweden's Anna Swenn-Larsson, who was the leader after round one, had the best meantime shortly before the end of the second round as well, however, she lost her balance a few gates from the finish and fell over. "It's a different victory, but it still counts. In the first run I did really badly. In the second run I tried to push and at the end I was lucky. I wanted to win, as I had an almost domestic audience here," said Vlhová following the race.
