In Slovakia, 30,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year and a person suffering from cancer can be met in almost every family. "Breast cancer, colorectal cancer and cervical cancer are currently among the most widespread cancer diseases in women in Slovakia. Prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and lung cancer dominate in men," said Liga proti rakovine or League Against Cancer manager Petra Benczyova. This year's slogan for the campaign is: "I am and I will be." The campaign wants to encourage individuals to think about how they can act to prevent cancer, and to spread this idea further.
Given the increasing number of cancer patients in Slovakia, the Slovak League Against Cancer reminds us that cancer can be prevented or reduced. One possibility is screening. Information about the disease is also provided on a toll-free line 0800 11 88 11. Questions can be addressed to doctors, psychologists, nutrition assistants and social-legal counsellors.
