15% of degraded ecosystems to be renewed by 2030

By 2030, 15% of degraded ecosystems in Slovakia should be renewed, said Tomáš Ferenčák, spokesperson of the Slovak Environment Ministry on Sunday on the occasion of the World Wetlands Day. The plan includes areas above the upper limit of the forest, but especially salt marshes, wetlands, peat bogs and floodplain forests, significantly affected by human activity. "If these ecosystems are used for agriculture, the most environmentally friendly procedures will be used. At the same time, a program for the restoration of wetlands and their ecosystem services will be implemented on the basis of the participation of all parties concerned," said Ferenčák.
