Following the departure of the United Kingdom from the EU on Friday, Slovakia's MEP for the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) Miriam Lexmann will join the European Parliament, her mandate officially beginning on February 1. Lexmann wants to focus on the area of more thorough observation of the principle of subsidiarity, that is the principle that divides powers between the EU and the member states. "Cultural-ethical and tax issues must remain exclusively within the competence of the member states, as enshrined in the treaties. On the contrary, the European Union should act only where it's beneficial for all and where individual states could not achieve the result on their own," she said.
