According to Vladimir Machalík, spokesman of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, geothermal agriculture has huge potential in Slovakia. "Slovakia is rich in geothermal energy sources, but we use it only marginally. Geothermal agriculture is a way in which we can produce high quality domestic food while being environmentally friendly, without emissions," says Machalík, adding that the most prospective location for geothermal energy use is in the Košice basin, where the water temperature reaches 150 degrees Celsius at a depth of up to 5000 meters.
