Bus carrier SAD Zvolen, which provides public transport in Banska Bystrica region, announced on Thursday that it would stop operating hundreds of routes as of Saturday following lengthy financial disputes with the regional authority. According to SAD Zvolen CEO Adrian Polony, the company will be operating only routes contracted with local authorities and firms as of Saturday. The regional authority earlier challenged at a court some contractual amendments with SAD concerning advanced payments adopted under former far-right governor Marian Kotleba, with the court eventually finding for the plaintiff due to the length of the contractual period. Nevertheless, the regional authority has continued paying the advance payments, but SAD Zvolen recently demanded double the usual amount. Governor Jan Lunter called the move by SAD Zvolen blackmail.
