Perception of corruption worsens in Slovakia

Up to two-thirds of all the cases of corruption which the Specialized Criminal Court deals with concern amounts up to € 500. This figure stems from research conducted by Transparency International Slovakia. Furthermore, up to 40% of all the corruption cases concern the amounts up to €100. Transparency International also points to the decreasing number of convicted politicians, judges, police officers and prosecutors. However, according to its director Gabriel Šípoš, the key problem in Slovakia is high-profile corruption. Overall, Slovakia ranks in 59th place in the international Corruption perception index for 2019. This is a fall by two places when compared to 2016.
