Slovakia should receive around €160 million through the Just Transition Fund (JTF) for projects that will help to transition to a green economy. "Public funds will also play their role, but the bulk of the funding will be borne by businesses and industry. Therefore, the whole process needs to be set up carefully and sensibly," said Peter Javorčík, Head of Permanent Representation to the EU after the Ecofin meeting on Tuesday. "The fund will support regions that are heavily affected by the transition to a green economy. In the case of Slovakia, it is mainly the region of Upper Nitra, which will be able to draw additional funding to redirect coal industry activities in a way that is less tied to CO2 emissions," Javorčík explained.
