As many as 72% of Slovaks do not trust the judiciary, and only Croatia has a worse figure in the EU, indicate the results of a Eurobarometer survey conducted by the European Commission in November 2019. This represents a decline by 10 percentage points in six months. Between the surveys in May and November last year, information appeared about possible links between several judges and Marian Kočner, who is facing charges of ordering journalist Jan Kuciak's murder. The non-profit organisation Transparency International Slovakia noted that this is the worst figure since 2004. According to the Justice Ministry, pro-active steps have been taken such as the preparation of disciplinary proposals in cooperation with law-enforcement authorities.
