The first case of avian influenza or bird flu has now also been recorded in Slovakia. The deadly H5N8 virus in a private farm in Zbehy, western Slovakia, is of the same origin as the one confirmed in Poland at the end of 2019. The director of the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic explained for the Dennik N daily that bird flu had arrived in Slovakia after two years. According to him, this fact can perturb Slovakia's status as a country without this type of disease, adding that the Zbehy case could have an impact on exporting Slovak poultry to non-EU countries, e.g. Russia or Ukraine.
