Five defence industry companies from Slovakia and the Czech Republic will launch co-operation on a project involving military radars which are to be used primarily by the armies of both countries. The Slovak Army was entertaining the idea to purchase new radiolocation technology for some time now, as a number of radars are at the end of their lifetime. The mid-range radar RL-3DM ReUNION is set to replace the obsolete radio-locators.
The new 3D radar of the MADR type will have an operating range of 250km and the system is designed to streamline the safety of military and civilian flights in both countries. Furthermore, the radar will be mobile, with most components designed to fit into a container transported by a vehicle, train or aircraft. The main purpose of the project is to save money, with the consortium attempting to acquire a strategic commission from the Czech and Slovak governments.
