Over the past year, the prices for housing and energy have seen the highest increase in Slovakia. These payments account for almost 26% of the total consumption expenditure of Slovak households and have a significant impact on headline inflation. According to the analyst Eva Sadovská of WOOD & Company, prices will continue to rise in 2020, resulting in households paying more for waste management, electricity and gas. Even though standing at 0.3% of the overall household budget, waste management may not pose a significant burden, the average 7.63% increase in the price of electricity will indeed. Housing units with higher electricity consumption will pay an average of €2.60 more than last year. Electricity costs account for 3.6% of total consumer spending, which is almost €140 per capita per year.
