A total of just over €926,000 is earmarked for the remaining salaries of Slovak lawmakers before the February 29 election, but MPs who are not re-elected will receive severance payments that might reach more than €821,000 in total. This year, Parliament has spent over €5.5 million on the salaries of its 150 MPs and more than €15.25 million over the entire electoral term. The basic lawmaker's salary currently equals almost €3,039 per month, but lawmakers with permanent residence in Bratislava region receive a bonus of €1,824 per month, while those based in other regions are given €2,128. In addition, the parliamentary chair receives a bonus of €498, while the four vice-chairs get €332 each, the House committee chairs €166 and the vice-chairs €83.
As for severance payments, lawmakers who have served at least five months and up to five years are paid a sum worth two monthly salaries if they lose their seats. Those who have occupied a seat for more than five years receive severance pay equaling three monthly salaries.
