The German Press Agency DPA quoted the Slovak European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic as informing that Russia and Ukraine had "in principle" agreed on transiting gas to the EU through Ukraine. That should secure drop-outs in gas supplies to several European countries. By the end of this year, the current agreement between Ukraine and Russia expires. The bilateral negotiations were complicated by the impeding new conflict over gas supplies. According to Sefcovic, the details of the agreement are to be discussed. The terms of the deal are, however, not yet clear.
