European Commission revokes ASFV infection zone in Slovakia

The European Commission has revoked the African swine fever virus (ASFV) infection zone that was designated in Slovakia as the situation concerning the virus has been swiftly stabilised thanks to the adopted measures. Nevertheless, the virus still persists in wild boars, and the further development of the disease will be decided by the approach taken by breeders, hunters and other concerned parties. According to the Agriculture Ministry, the virus rapidly affected a large swath of Europe, while in Slovakia it appeared only in two districts in eastern Slovakia - Trebisov and Michalovce. The last contraction by domestic swine was recorded exactly three months ago and since then has only been seen in wild boars.
