Even though the Christmas holidays should be about peace, during this period insurance companies in Slovakia obtain hundreds of claims every year. These range from fires caused by decorative candles, pre-Christmas traffic accidents to conflicts with e-shops during Christmas shopping. These are the most frequent issues that insurance companies record during Advent and Christmas. Therefore they advise people not to leave the house until they are sure that they have extinguished all the candles, and also be cautious when buying electric candles of doubtful origin. In December, the pre-Christmas cleaning injuries are the second most frequent injuries following injuries occurring when engaging in recreational sports.
