Ex-Prosecutor General charged with obstruction

An investigator from the National Crime Agency (NAKA) has pressed charges against former Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka for hiding an audio recording related to the intelligence operation code named Gorilla, which was conducted by the Slovak Intelligence Service beginning in 2005. Trnka is charged with misusing the powers of a public official, the police reported on a social network on Wednesday. Trnka allegedly obtained the recording from Marián Kočner, who currently faces charges of ordering the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak. According to police, the recording "led to suspicions that several crimes had been committed," and Trnka therefore "hid the recording, failing to hand it over to the law-enforcement authorities." He did so, say police, with the aim of obtaining property for himself and Kočner, as well as "to gain an illegal advantage for individuals whose conversations indicating that a crime had been committed were captured on the recording in question."
