The 14.4-kilometre Budimir-Bidovce D1-motorway stretch, which will serve as part of a bypass around Kosice, was opened for use on Monday. The construction work took three years and was financed from EU funds and from Slovakia's state budget for €197.4 million (ex-VAT). The stretch is connected to the D1 motorway from Prešov at Budimir. A new southeastern bypass around Kosice will be connected to the stretch in the future. The National Highway Company (NDS) expects the contract for constructing this section to be signed in the first half of 2020.
