Call to combat violence against women

According to the largest pan-European survey on violence against women by the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, 1 in 5 women in Slovakia have experienced physical violence by their partner during their lifetime, while 1 in 2 women have experienced some form of psychological violence by their partner, warns the NGO Fenestra on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10^th. The organization, which has been helping victims of domestic violence for many years, calls for the introduction in Slovakia of a systematic approach to supporting victims and preventing violence against women. This should include specialized advisory centres and specialized training for police and medical personnel.
