Slovakia asks EC to cancel ASFV infection area

Slovakia has officially asked the European Commission (EC) to discontinue the status of African swine fever virus (ASFV) infection area for pig farmers in Slovakia, Daniel Hrezik of the Agriculture Ministry's communication department said on Monday. The situation with this infection in Slovakia has been stabilised. It has been restricted to two neighbouring districts on the Hungarian border - Trebišov and Michalovce (both in the Kosice region). The most recent case among domestic pigs was discovered on August 19. Since then it has only occurred in wild boars.
