More options to temporarily suspend Judge or Prosecutor

If there are reasonable doubts that specific judges or prosecutors may seriously compromise the credibility of the judiciary or the good repute of the judiciary, they can be temporarily suspended. An amendment to the Act on Judges and Lay Judges securing this was approved by MPs in a fast-track procedure on Thursday. The proposal of the Judicial Council chair, the justice minister or the Supreme Court chair to temporarily suspend the office of a judge for this new reason will be decided by the Judicial Council at a public session. The suspension of the office of judge or prosecutor will continue until the reasons for the decision cease to exist, however, for a maximum of six months, with the possibility of extending it for another six months, that is a maximum of one year.
