On Thursday, the Slovak Parliament adopted a resolution in which it refuses that the Istanbul Convention should legally bind Slovakia. The Parliament had already refused the Convention earlier this year, however, in this resolution it calls on the EU not to ratify it. The Istanbul Convention, passed by the Council of Europe in 2011, is the most comprehensive international agreement on combatting violence perpetrated against women. In effect since August 2014, it was signed by the EU in June 2017.
