A Forum of the Ministers of Culture was held in Paris today as part of the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference. The focus of the meeting was the need to invest in culture and creativity for sustainable development and employment, as well as cultural education and its impact on human development and innovation. The Slovak Republic was represented by Culture Minister Ľubica Laššáková, who gave a talk highlighting the importance to local communities of cultural and creative industries. Such industries are peculiar, she said, as they create "a bridge between art, culture, business and technology." They also "create jobs that cannot be transferred abroad because they are linked to specific cultural and historical skills and are tied to the [local] territory and traditions."
