Czech House opens in Bratislava

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová and her Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman officially opened the Czech House in Bratislava together on Saturday as part of events commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. The Czech House aims to offer a wider scope of activities to Czech expats in Slovakia as well as at the Czech Embassy in Bratislava.

Prior to the ceremony, the two presidents also commemorated the march of Slovak students against the communist regime on November 16, 1989, by laying wreaths to a commemorative plaque at Comenius University. "My wish is that the Czech House become a place of meetings and friendship," said the Czech president. Čaputová added that even after the breakup of Czechoslovakia, the two successor states have remained the closest of partners and friends, and voiced her belief that this bond will only be strengthened by the existence of the Czech House. "I'm confident that Bratislava, but also the entire country, has acquired in the Czech House an important place for meetings that will contribute to our mutual trade and cultural exchange," she said.

The Czech House at Prepoštská Street will be home to the CzechTrade, CzechTourism and CzechINvest organisations, and will feature a multi-purpose hall, gallery, offices and lodgings.
