Bad weather in Slovakia causes losses of lives

The heavy rainfall has increased the level of watercourses in several places in Slovakia. The most tragic consequence of the bad weather occurred in Revúca, where the flooded Muránka river dragged three women downstream, who were trying to rescue animals from the local shelter. The situation in the Rožňava district is critical, where villagers from Stratená fought against floodwater pouring into their yards and gardens. Meanwhile, the eastern part of the Tatra mountains was hit by gales. Due to strong winds, several villages remained without electricity and firefighters had to free from the fallen trees one of the main roads connecting Slovakia with Poland. On Thursday, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš ordered the chief-of-general-staff to test how prepared the emergency units of the Slovak Armed Forces are to be deployed in the case of floods.
