Twelve people were killed and seventeen injured in a traffic accident involving a bus and a lorry on the I/65 road near the village of Nitrianske Hrnčiarovce (in the Nitra region) on Wednesday afternoon. According to preliminary information, the accident was caused by the overloaded lorry, which was driving down a hill and started swerving on a slight turn, before hitting the side of the bus driving in the opposite direction. The bus on the local Nitra-Jelenec route was carrying mainly young people who were returning home from schools in Nitra. On Thursday, the police started prosecution for a general threat, though they have not yet reported any charges against a specific person.
