"The fall of the Berlin Wall is not only a symbol of the end of the division of one city and one country," said Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová in Berlin at the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of this historical event. Along with the fall of totalitarian regimes in other central and eastern European countries, these events form "a fascinating story of mutual help, solidarity and desire for freedom and democracy," stated the Slovak President. According to her, "it is very important that we commemorate this important anniversary at a time when we too often hear voices about the persisting division of Europe into east and west". Čaputová attended the celebrations with counterparts from the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
