30 years since Velvet Revolution: Slovakia to open Czech house

The Czech house will be opened in Bratislava as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet revolution, which broke out in 1989 in then Czechoslovakia. According to Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, in spite of the division of the common state in 1993, Czech and Slovak common history continues in their membership of NATO, the EU and this week's celebration of the fall of the totalitarian regime. On Monday, the Slovak and CzechGovernments met in Valtice, South Moravian Region, the Czech Republic. Apart from remembering the Velvet revolution, they discussed deepening cooperation between the countries, European topics, climate policy, migration, cross-border cooperation projects, energy security, transport infrastructure and cooperation in the area of internal security and defence.

The tradition of the joint meetings of the Slovak and Czech Governments began in 2012 and has become a natural part of above-standard Czech-Slovak relations. The previous time that the two Governments met was in Košice, eastern Slovakia in 2018.
