Over one hundred Slovak and Czech expats discussed the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution at the premises of Slovakia's Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels on Wednesday. In addition to events and the course of the Velvet Revolution itself, the discussion was aimed at broader social, political and cultural aspects that preceded the Revolution, even with reference to the events of the Prague Spring in 1968. Also discussed were the causes of dissatisfaction among broad sections of the population in the late 1980s and post-November political developments in Czechoslovakia, including the mistakes that accompanied the nationwide political change in both parts of the-then federation.
