The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry intends to continue to offer a helping hand in discussions between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák (a Smer-SD nominee) stated on Tuesday during a meeting with new Cypriot Ambassador to Slovakia Nicos Nicolaou. "The participation of [Slovak] soldiers in the UNFICYP mission and in the bi-community dialogue on the island reflects Slovakia's interest in bolstering multilateralism when dealing with international issues, including the Cypriot one," stated Lajčák. Among the topics addressed on Tuesday were the current state of bilateral cooperation, the bi-community dialogue under the supervision of Slovak diplomacy and the mission of Slovak peacemakers in Cyprus. Nicolaou pledged to contribute towards deepening cooperation in the fields of politics, the economy and culture, during his mission in Slovakia.
