50% of Slovaks studying abroad not planning to return

Only half of the Slovak university students studying abroad are planning to come home, indicates a survey by the 'It Makes Sense' initiative. The mobility of young people to study abroad can be evaluated as an asset, according to the initiative. However, according to Stanislav Lukáč of the 'It Makes Sense' initiative, the limited interest of students to return to Slovakia makes up for a problem.

The proportion of students who have decided to study abroad has been increasing in recent years. In 2010, 14% of Slovaks studied abroad and the number has risen to 17% in 2017. However, the OECD average is only at 2%. According to UNESCO's data, over 32,000 Slovaks studied abroad, with most of them, approximately two thirds, in the Czech Republic.
