Supreme Audit Office to cooperate more with parliament

Finding its inspiration in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Parliament could soon have a new committee looking into reports from the Slovak Supreme Audit Office. A similar committee has been effective in the Czech Parliament already since 2006 and was able to prevent the misuse of public finances in several cases. Currently, the Supreme Audit Office in Slovakia has been handing in reports to different committees within the parliament. However, according to the Office's director, Karol Mitrík, they lack feedback as to whether the report has been discussed or not. According to the Parliamentary Speaker Andrej Danko, either the law on the Supreme Audit Office needs to change to make the reading of their reports in the parliament mandatory, or a new committee responsible for these reports must be established. The situation could be changed by the end of the year.
