The European Commission on Thursday published via the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) a list of 1,780 European towns and urban areas that will obtain a free-of-charge internet connection in the framework of the WiFi4EU initiative, with 53 being from Slovakia. The initiative supports the idea of a free wifi connection for the public in public areas such as parks, squares, libraries and museums across all Europe. The commission explained that it had received more than 11,000 applications from 25,000 registered towns. The lucky 1,780 were selected based on the principle of "the early bird catches the worm".
