On Thursday, a two-day biannual meeting of parliamentary chairs from Council of Europe-member states began. Guests from several neighbouring and observer countries are also attending the meeting. The parliamentary chairs are set to discuss three issues at the summit: a common European home for the next 70 years; the implementation of the UN 2030 programme and how parliaments can contribute towards the aims of permanently sustainable development; as well as the role of women in politics and public discussions. The first conference at this level was held in 1975. Slovakia, which became a Council of Europe member in 1993, will be represented at the summit by Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko.
