Renovations planned at Spiš Castle

Part of Spiš Castle needs urgent renovation, or it could be severely damaged. Since the Culture Ministry does not have the necessary €4.82 million in its budget, it has submitted a proposal that the state should earmark the money. At its away-from-home session, the Cabinet supported the proposal. The investment in this UNESCO World Heritage Site is planned for 2020-2022. "The uniqueness of Spiš Castle represents a commitment that this important cultural monument must be adequately maintained and preserved in the best possible condition. Insufficient financial coverage of ongoing and necessary repairs has resulted in the current emergency condition of several structures in the castle complex," the Culture Ministry writes in the financing proposal.
