Expenses for sick leave and unemployment benefits to be cut

The social security agency Socialna Poistovna should introduce measures to reduce spending on sickness insurance and unemployment benefits. Expenses from the sickness insurance fund should decrease by €36 million next year compared to 2019. "It is envisaged to implement measures that minimize the recent negative development of expenses in the field of sickness and unemployment insurance," the Finance Ministry stated with regard to the draft budget of Socialna Poistovna for 2020 to 2022. The guardians of the state coffers argue that it is necessary to improve the effectiveness of medical assessment and review activities in the area of sickness insurance so that the spending of funds for the payment of benefits should be as effective as possible.
