Both the Judicial Council and the Justice Ministry should have greater powers in the case of judges who violate the law, Justice Minister Gábor Gál (Most-Hid) and Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) indicated on Monday morning. Earlier in the day, they met with Interior Minister Denisa Saková, Police Corps President Milan Lučanský and representatives of the Judicial Council and the General Prosecutor's Office. Pellegrini said that the government would prepare the legislation in the coming hours. Its aim should be to address the situation in the judiciary, which is reeling from recent corruption scandals. They indicate links, cooperation and agreements between judges, prosecutors and politicians with the Penta Financial Group and controversial entrepreneur Marián Kočner charged of ordering the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak.
