Chat with M. Kočner forces judge to step down

Bratislava III District Court chair David Lindtner is leaving his post in response to information revealed in communications between himself and entrepreneur Marián Kočner, charged of ordering the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak. Justice Minister Gábor Gál said that Lindtner needed to step down "because the things that have happened are not acceptable. He's a very good expert, but he didn't handle the situation and failed," said Gál. He added that a judge must examine whether his conduct is appropriate, including in public, and he must ensure that he is independent.

The Denník N daily wrote on Monday that Martin Glváč, Deputy Speaker of Parliament also appeared in the leaked chats with Kočner. They allegedly discussed business with land and the reconstruction of the Government after Robert Fico stepped down from the post of Prime Minister in 2018.
