Slovakia calls on Russia to withdraw troops

The Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry on Tuesday called on Russia to withdraw its troops in Crimea to their barracks and refrain from meddling in the situation in Ukraine. “Any further escalation of tension and continuing violation of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine will constitute a serious threat to international peace and security”, said the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry in a written statement.

With reference to a resolution of EU's foreign affairs ministers adopted on Monday, the Slovak ministry strongly condemned the violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by what it called as acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces. “We appreciate the restraint as demonstrated by the Ukrainian Government so far, and its efforts aimed at stabilising the situation”, stated the ministry, adding that Slovakia is ready to participate actively in the resumption of dialogue in co-operation with the EU, UN, OSCE and other international organisations.
